Breaker is an instrument created for an outdoor performance entitled Somewhere, which took place in a field south of San Francisco. Housed inside an old traffic control box, Breaker used Teensy microcontrollers networked via XBee radios to map gestures to sound synthesis running on a laptop. Six channels of continuous control data were transmitted in real-time, alongside sound input captured by a wireless piezoelectric disc and microphone. Breaker was used in a 4-audio channel performance where vocal processing, audio feedback, and storytelling were combined to create a dialogue between gesture, audience, and place.
